We had our first site-assessment meeting today and have a tentative agreement to move forward with the first phase of our school garden. We are developing a Native Garden with input from the 4th and 5th grades, and an Annual Edibles Garden with input from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. Look for work parties coming this summer to spread wood-chips, build garden beds, and start vegetables. We will be integrating worm-study bins, compost techniques, native and modern edible plants, and room for science experiments.

I’m having trouble picturing where this garden will be in relation to the buildings. I see there are covered walkways. Is this in the back of the main building?
Hi David, Thanks for the question! The covered walkway on the left leads to the South Wing. The garden is on the south side of the building, and there is a big blue rock to the left of the driveway into the teacher parking lot.
I know the master gardener who worked with Orca to design and build their school garden. Her name is Emily Bishton and she is fabulous! She worked with my old preschool to redesign our outdoor play space. I would be happy to put you in touch with her. If you by some chance are already working with her, tell Emily that Susanne from SPCDC says hello.
I worked with the woman who designed the Orca garden. Her name is Emily Bishton and she is fabulous! She redesigned our preschool outdoor play space and did an amazing job. I am happy to put you in touch with her, or of by some chance you are already working with Emily tell her Susanne from SPCDC said hello. My daughter, Sadie will be in 3rd grade at Lincoln next year and we are all very excited about a school garden!
